I'm glad I found Baristanet
Baristanet is a blog with a food section where people give feedback (mostly negative) on local restaurants in the Montclair ,Bloomfield area. If you can get past some of the personal attacks that sometimes show up every now and then, it is the best open forum on food in our area.
When someone says that the service is horrible at a particular restaurant, I don't know if it is fair, owners don't have a never ending pool of good waiters and waitresses to choose from. Could you imagine if they fired the help every time they gave bad service? Every restaurant in the world would have 1 or 2 employees. I also know it can't be easy for restaurant owners to hear people say that their establishment is dirty. I mean there is constructive criticism that can cross the line. I am all for positive feedback, but it is clear some people are trying to attack restaurants for reasons they see fit. Unless I felt as though the service I got from an establishment was bad for a reason, I would assume the usual, that service in ANY restaurant is average at best. Truth be told, most waiters and waitresses do not take pride in what they are doing, so you get what you get. When was the last time you heard anyone say that I want to become a waiter? MOST of the time they are aspiring to do something else, and it is just a job for now. To the waiters and waitresses out there that DO take pride in what they do, please, please, please keep up the good work, and try to brainwash your co-workers into doing the same.
